Term 3 Week 4

Dear Parents, We had a great time this week playing our handball tournament! English: We learned spelling words beginning with the prefix "ex" meaning "out".  We also looked at examples of imagery in poems. We practiced identifying when a poet refers to sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste in poems in order to help the reader imagine the details. We also looked at sound devices like alliteration (repeating the same letter) and onomatopoeia (words that sound like what they mean) in poems. Maths: We reviewed times 7 and 11 tables. We explored volume and capacity. We estimated and measured how much water different containers can hold. We built 3D models using cubes and calculated the volume. UOI: We finished up our summative assessment! We enjoyed advertising, buying and selling in our classroom market! We also started our final unit of the year, how we express ourselves. Dear Parents, We were happy that clubs started back this week!  English: We learned spelling words beginning with the prefix "auto", which means self. We practiced self-assessing our work and deciding if we had answered questions correctly or not. We worked on our writing skills and remembered to include our writing strategies that we have been working on. We looked at different forms of poetry (acrostic, haiku, limerick, free verse, cinquain, and quatrain) and examples of them. We practiced identifying which type of poem we were reading. Maths: We reviewed times tables 4, 8, and 12. We took an assessment to check our understanding of decimals. We really enjoyed investigating chance. We learned terms like certain, impossible, likely, and unlikely, and played really fun games to identify the potential outcomes in simple chance situations.
