Dear Parents, We had fun this week practicing for Sports Day! English: We started to explore advertising . We thought about what adverts we've seen, the purpose of adverts, and what makes a good ad. We made lists of the different ways companies advertise, and started thinking about how we could advertise a product. Next week, we will continue to explore this further, and connect it to our unit. Maths: We learned how to use graph paper to help our spacing, and made timelines of our daily schedules. We will continue this next week. Unit of Inquiry: We used photos from home to connect ancient civilisations to our daily lives. We started to see the relationship between the past and today , think more about how ancient civilsations impact our lives, and organise useful information. Dear Parents, We enjoyed making some great connections this week! English: We described visual images , then worked on describing our personal reactions to the images. We discussed how amazing it is that images can provoke feelings in us, and linked this with our previous unit on body systems. We found images in ancient civilisation books, and began to explore how we could get information and react to those images too. We also worked on using the correct article (a, an, the) in our writing. Maths: We focused on numbers this week and briefly reviewed rounding to the nearest ten and hundred. We then practiced rounding to the nearest thousand by playing fun games. Why do we need to round numbers? Dear Parents, We had a fun week this week! We were very excited to welcome our new friend Jignesh! This week... English: We learned and practiced how to reference when we find information in books, and used this to find information about Ancient Civilisations. We skim-read some books and used the table of contents to find specific information about the history of Tokyo Imperial Palace. We also found examples of homophones "their, there, and they're" and investigated when to use each one. Maths: We inquired into what a protractor is called and used for. We practiced naming right, acute, and obtuse angles , and straight lines. We had a lot of fun measuring different types of angles and looking for real angles in our classroom and at home. We used our bodies and string to explore rotations , and made connections to clocks and compasses. We also linked this with our unit of inquiry, by looking at the Mayan calendar and noting the importance of understanding r

Dear Grade 3 Parents, Welcome to Term 2! What a week it has been! I was happy to hear that everyone was safe after Tuesday's typhoon. I would like to point out some reminders/changes: -This blog! Instead of the usual newsletter, I will update the blog on a Friday. If you would like an email sent to you, you can subscribe to the blog by entering your email address in the subscription box. You can also find information about our Unit of Inquiry on the side. -Our weekly schedule has changed a little. I sent it home with the students on Monday, let me know if you need a second copy. You may notice that English Grammar is no longer a subject. This is because after our IB inspection, it was decided that English Grammar should be done as part of our normal English classes. These two periods have been replaced by an extra UOI class and an extra PE class. PE will now be Tuesdays and Wednesdays. -Some students did not bring a snack some days this week and complained about being rea
