Week 10 and 11

Dear Parents, We've had an extremely busy week and a half! With all of the fun activities of Numeracy Week last week (check out my other blog), it's crazy to think that we had time to do a lot of learning in other subjects too! We finished our research that we had been working on. The students practiced their presenting skills. We also began giving each other feedback about our presenting styles-I was impressed that the students gave constructive and positive advice to each other! Solar Power Sound Energy Electrical Energy Hydro Power Wind Power  To dig deeper into our central idea, we had to understand more what energy transfer means. We explored with different science experiments in the classroom. After a lot of time thinking, talking, and sharing ideas, we finally understood that energy changes from one form to another! We used our art skills to draw and describe some energy changes that we could think of. We reviewed wha

We had a really fun Numeracy Week! We did a lot of fun activities to earn Abroad Yen, like answer quiz questions and tricky puzzles of the day! We took part in a Maths version of the game-show "Family Feud". We had to work as a team to find the correct answers!  We made a "Fraction Quilt" to be displayed in the gym. We emailed in photos of Maths in Nature/Real-life, and voted for the winners! We went shopping with all of the money we earned and bought some cool prizes!

Dear Parents, Thank you very much to those who could come to Parents' Morning! We were all very excited to have you join our class! After tuning in what our unit means and what we already know, we had a challenge to turn a solid into liquid-who can melt the ice the fastest. Students planned and carried out their challenge, and many groups reflected on their method and decided to change it. We showed how our understanding of matter can help us! After Parents' Morning, we discussed how heat energy changed the ice to water. We brainstormed to see what other types of energy we know about. It seems like we know a lot about energy, but maybe we need to research a little more to clear up any confusion. We used library books and the internet to find more information about different types of energy. Each group chose a type of energy to learn more about.  We practiced chance investigations, and recording and reading data. We reviewed ho
