Dear Parents, We had our big IB-PYP inspection at the start of the week. I was happy to see that Grade 3 students were polite and friendly to our two visitors, and were excellent at communicating what we are doing in school. I was very proud of our class! :) English: We finished reading "Brad Needs a Budget" for  shared reading . We made a lot of connections to our unit and our prior knowledge . We noticed the sound that " dg " makes and thought of similar words. We enjoyed reading discussion cards and talking in groups about the book. We used vocabulary words like "budget, allowance, spending, savings" to write a response journal entry . We looked at some simple sentences and found that every sentence needs a subject . We looked at the clock to figure out what time it would be when given a question about earlier or later events. We practiced reading information from schedules . We also began exploring money . This will help us when using money for our UOI summative assessment next week. Unit of Inquiry: We finished our  third line o

English: We began reading "Happy New Year Around the World" for shared reading . We compared how different cultures celebrate New Years, which allowed us to become more knowledgeable and open-minded. We reviewed elements of non-fiction texts , such as table of contents and glossary. We made predictions about new vocabulary words and used the glossary to find definitions. We also continued learning our spellings words and improving our reading abilities with level books from Raz Kids. Maths: This week we measured time . We measured the length of time it took to do a variety of activities. We explored different scenarios, using the starting time and finishing time to work out how long they took, or the starting time and how long they took to find the finishing time. We also had fun estimating how many jewels were in our rewar
