Term 3 Week 7

Dear Parents, This week the students sat the International Schools' Assessment (ISA). We will get the results early next term and share them with the parents. We read Brad Needs a Budget  and made text-to-life connections, answered comprehension questions, and shared our answers to discussion questions with our classmates. After reading the story of The Berenstain Bears Get the Gimmies and watching the video of the book, we wrote a letter to the Berenstain Bears to advise them on how to deal with their demanding cubs. We remembered to use persuasive language. We used our maths skills to create a budget for the Berenstain Bears to help them with their spending and savings. We brainstormed ideas for needs and wants. We showed the difference between goods and services. We shared our ideas for supply and demand. After researching needs and wants, we made a poster to show our own personal needs and wants. We have discovered a lot

Dear Parents, Thank you very much to everyone for attending Student-Led Conferences today! It was great to see the students reflect on their learning and sharing their goals with you. This week we were mainly planning for SLCs by reflecting on our strengths and weaknesses, setting goals, organising our online portfolios (Seesaw), and thinking about how we wanted to lead the meetings. We also revised for the ISAs by going over some Maths concepts, and practicing our writing structure. We also went through the practice ISAs and thought about why certain answers were correct. We were a bit late starting our sixth unit, how we organise ourselves, as we have been so busy with YEP prep! We began inquiring into goods and services, and shared our ideas so far. Important: -ISAs will be Monday and Tuesday. Please make sure that your child is prepared by going to bed early and eating a big, healthy breakfast. Thank you again for today! Enjoy your weekend, Ms. Stacy.

Term 3 Week 5

Dear Parents, We had a lot of fun this week-we even walked in the snow! We enjoyed free dress as a reward for good behavior. We also elected our class representative for the next academic year. Congratulations to Noah! In English, we focused on the structure of a piece of writing. We practiced building towards a good piece of writing by using a graphic organiser, and editing our work. We also had a special lesson from Grade 8 to teach us about inferences. This helped us to find clues in a piece of writing. It was a lot of fun. In Maths, we worked on equivalent fractions. We also saw how decimals and fractions are connected, and practiced converting between the two. We worked on word problems. We also revised addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division strategies, as well as practicing using a calculator to check our answers. In UOI, we made a plan for our summative assessments, worked on YEP, and learned how to shade colours.

Term 3 Week 4

Dear Parents, We had a busy week, and a lot of sickness in the class! We have been wearing masks and washing our hands to help stop the spread of germs. In English, we read "Art Made From What?" to work on our comprehension skills. We made connections between the text and other texts that we have read. We also found clue words in the book to give us an idea of what the author's opinion was. We thought that words like "remarkable, beautiful, and wonderful," probably meant that the author liked the art in the book. In Maths, we revised our knowledge of fractions. We focused especially on equivalent fractions. For example, 2/5 = 4/10. We spent a lot of time practicing this concept, as it was quite tricky to understand. We worked on our art skills by practicing shading. We talked about the way light hits an object and creates shadows. We practiced how do shade an apple, including how to hold a pencil, to give a more realistic, 3D effect.
