Term 2 begins!

Dear Grade 3 Parents,

Welcome to Term 2! What a week it has been! I was happy to hear that everyone was safe after Tuesday's typhoon.

I would like to point out some reminders/changes:

-This blog! Instead of the usual newsletter, I will update the blog on a Friday. If you would like an email sent to you, you can subscribe to the blog by entering your email address in the subscription box. You can also find information about our Unit of Inquiry on the side.

-Our weekly schedule has changed a little. I sent it home with the students on Monday, let me know if you need a second copy. You may notice that English Grammar is no longer a subject. This is because after our IB inspection, it was decided that English Grammar should be done as part of our normal English classes. These two periods have been replaced by an extra UOI class and an extra PE class. PE will now be Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

-Some students did not bring a snack some days this week and complained about being really hungry. Please remember to send a snack!

-You can communicate with me about anything via Jupiter email. Please especially email me if there are any issues.

-Please email me through Jupiter if your child is running late in the morning or absent from school (for safety reasons).

-We will have a new student joining us next week! His name is Jignesh and he is joining us from India!

This week we...
English: We used a dictionary to look up words to understand our central idea. We practiced getting relevant information from books. We guessed the authors' purposes for writing books related to our inquiry.

Maths: We sorted some numbers into two groups: numbers with a comma and numbers with a full stop. We then explored decimal points using counting tiles, rulers, and real world examples.

Unit of Inquiry: We began our inquiry into ancient civilizations. We looked at some paintings of scenes from a long time ago in different parts of the world, and brainstormed ideas for what our unit could be about. We shared our previous knowledge and found new and interesting information in books. We practiced sketching by drawing a Ziggurat temple and we used clay to make Ancient Sumer seals.

Have a great weekend!
Ms. Stacy.
