Term 2 Week 2

Dear Parents,

We had a fun week this week! We were very excited to welcome our new friend Jignesh!

This week...

English:
We learned and practiced how to reference when we find information in books, and used this to find information about Ancient Civilisations. We skim-read some books and used the table of contents to find specific information about the history of Tokyo Imperial Palace. We also found examples of homophones "their, there, and they're" and investigated when to use each one.

Maths:
We inquired into what a protractor is called and used for. We practiced naming right, acute, and obtuse angles, and straight lines. We had a lot of fun measuring different types of angles and looking for real angles in our classroom and at home. We used our bodies and string to explore rotations, and made connections to clocks and compasses. We also linked this with our unit of inquiry, by looking at the Mayan calendar and noting the importance of understanding rotations.

Unit of Inquiry:
We researched more about the Maya civilization this week. We used books, videos, and the internet to learn more about who they were. We made Mayan masks in art class. We also started our second line of inquiry: "Similarities and differences between ancient civilisations" by comparing the houses, food, transport, clothes, religion, work, and location of some different civilisations. We were also excited to start making some connections to present day-some friends noticed that some Yokai Watch characters are named from Greek Mythology, while another friend sent in a photo of Ancient Civilisation art that she saw at Umeda station!

A reminder that there is no school on Monday.
Have a great long weekend!
Ms. Stacy.
