Term 2 Week 2

Dear Parents,

We enjoyed our first full week back at school! Grade 3 are doing a wonderful job at being kind to each other!

In English class, we used the book "Late Again" for shared reading. We highlighted regular past tense verbs, analysed Ming's character, recognised text to self connections, and practiced editing our work using dictionaries. We also split into spelling teams based on an assessment, to help us to learn how to spell at our own level.

We had fun in Maths class with measuring! We brainstormed our prior knowledge of length, used rulers and a metre stick to see how long a millimetre, centimetre, and metre are, and estimated and measured a variety of items. We used our common sense to decide when we should use millimetres, centimetres, metres, or kilometres. We also looked at how to convert between different units of length, and practiced converting.

For our Unit of Inquiry, we went deeper with our research of the Ancient Incas. We found out a lot more about their way of life, and found a lot of interesting facts. We practiced sharing and reflecting on what we know so far, and asking the right questions to take our inquiry further.

As the Ancient Incas were in Peru, we will celebrate Peru with Pre-K A for ICF. Grade 3 were very caring when we visited Pre-K A for a craft. They helped our younger friends with cutting and gluing, and were great teachers!

The Police came to talk to us about Stranger Danger and Road Safety. We learned that we should always look both ways before crossing the street, even if the light is green. We also learned that we should try not to walk anywhere by ourselves if there are not many people around, strangers may lie to trick you to go with them, so you should never go anywhere with someone you don't know and trust, even if they say you have to. You should run away, scream, or blow a whistle if someone tries to grab you. The Police also gave us a whistle to keep on our backpacks in an emergency.

In PSPE we practiced games for Sports Day with Grade 1 and 2 friends, and focused on skills like how to win graciously and how to lose without getting too upset. We also practiced running and moving safely.
