Term 2 Week 11
Dear Parents,
English:
We took reading assessments on Raz Kids and practiced reading slowly and carefully to make sure we are understanding what we are reading. We read a book in school and at home to practice our comprehension skills. We guessed and then learned the meaning of new vocabulary words, and tried to make predictions about a story from looking at pictures and reading captions. We learned about subject-verb agreement, and using "er" and "est" with adjectives.
Maths:
This week we learned that volume is the space that an object takes up. We reviewed area and perimeter. We compared different volumes. We practiced finding the volume of images and models using cubic units. We built models using blocks and playdoh and found the volume of the models to help further our understanding of the concept. We also reviewed x2 and x4 multiplication.
Unit of Inquiry:
We read about animal adaptations and did some art to represent an animal adaptation we were interested in. We planned our summative assessments (final projects) for the unit. We then began to make our 3D models of our chosen ecosystem/biome. We considered biotic and abiotic factors, and began to think about how we can show human impact on our ecocsystem. We will work on these next week, and reflect on our unit and what we have discovered.
Reminders:
There will be no school on Friday (23rd).
Have a good weekend,
Ms. Stacy.
