Term 2 Week 13
Dear Parents,
English:
We used books to understand what a simile is. We wrote our own paragraphs using similes. We worked on comparing two stories. We focused on understanding story features and made graphic organisers to show our understanding of a book. We also continued to focus on reading for our correct level. Please allow your child to focus on reading and understanding "level up" books on Raz Kids.
Maths:
We continued to explore the capacity of containers. We had a challenge to find the capacity and drops in different containers. We used problem solving strategies and addition and multiplication to help us figure this out. We learned the difference between the capacity of a container and the volume of a liquid. We also reviewed x5 multiplication.
Unit of Inquiry:
We did presentations of our summative assessment projects. We also displayed them in the gym for other classes to see.
Science Week:
-We explored density (heaviness) of liquids by creating moving colours with oil, water, food colouring and salt.
-We made used chemical reactions to make colourful explosions using baking soda and vinegar.
-We used our Maths knowledge of volume to learn how to make slime.
-We were teachers and taught our preschool friends how to make slime!
-We observed how adding heat to chemicals can cause a reaction when we lit sugar and baking soda on fire.
-We explored DNA, blood cells under the microscope, brain models, magnetism, and electricity in the Science Lab.
-We looked at a lot of cool projects at the Science Fair.
Have a good weekend,
Ms. Stacy.
