Term 2 Week 9
Dear Parents,
Thank you to everyone who came to ICF last week! I hope you enjoyed it!
Grade 3 collected more food for the food drive per student than any other class in the school! Fantastic!
A reminder that we have Parents' Day coming up next week. Please check the email from the office for more details.
English:
We practiced reading newspaper articles, with a focus on layout and language used. We created our own drafts of a newspaper article, and worked on turning an idea into a finished product. We read articles from the news about the environment, discussed the intention/message of the article and brainstormed ideas for our unit. We also practiced adding 's' or 'es' to make a noun plural.
Maths:
We brainstormed ideas for what a map should like like, what information it should contain, and why we need maps. We then practiced reading a map, made our own maps, and connected to our unit by making a map of a chosen biome. We found locations using coordinates and directions. Once we focused on maps, we noticed how many maps we had been seeing in our daily lives and in our inquiry.
Unit of Inquiry:
Our inquiry was really amazing this week. We started to take real action. Friends have been picking up trash from the park. The students decided to create a recycling centre in our classroom. We looked at the rubbish in our building and have started to inquire into what our building does to recycle. We also made posters of biomes and displayed information that we researched.
See you next week for Parents' Day!
Ms. Stacy.
