Term 3 Week 2

Dear Parents,

English: We finished reading "Happy New Year Around the World" for shared reading. We made a t-chart to compare and contrast how different cultures celebrate. We noticed how the vowel digraph 'ea' can make two different sounds, and tried to find as many words as we could containing the sounds in books. We chose different topics and practiced using content vocabulary to write paragraphs.

Maths: This week we continued measuring time. We looked at the clock to figure out what time it would be when given a question about earlier or later events. We practiced reading information from schedules. We also began exploring money. We shared what we already know and watched a video to remind ourselves of the different types of coins and bills in Japanese Yen. We played games to review addition, subtraction, and multiplication. This will help us when using money for our UOI summative assessment next week.

Unit of Inquiry: We finished our third line of inquiry "effects of major economic transformations" by focusing on globalisation. We shared products from home and found that we have a lot of products that were made in other countries. We organised and represented our data on a bar graph or tally graph, and analysed our results. We then reflected on our unit. We discussed the central idea and had a debate about whether or not we agree with it. We brainstormed ideas for how to show our understanding in the summative assessment.

Reminders: I have heard that influenza is still going around the school. Please send your child to school wearing a mask every day, and with another mask in their backpack. Please keep your child at home if they are sick. Please also be ready to answer your phone and pick up your child each day, in case they become sick at school. Thank you for your cooperation.

Have a good weekend,
Ms. Stacy.
