Term 3 Week 4

Dear Parents,

English: Our focus for our shared reading this week was "Jobs Change". We shared our predictions based on the covers and photographs in the book. We were surprised to compare and contrast jobs nowadays and long ago, and we learned a lot of interesting facts! We learned about using appropriate vocabulary to compare and contrast, such as both, similar to, like, unlike, but, in contrast, different from.

Maths: We explored chance and probability. We looked at different scenarios and decided if the outcomes were impossible, unlikely, likely, or certain. We then used fractions to represent the different outcomes. We played a variety of games to test the accuracy of our predictions.

Unit of Inquiry: We had a wonderful week with our summative assessment! We finished preparing our goods, advertising, booth decoration, currency exchange booth, and a donation booth for students who wanted to give to charity. Our advertising worked very well, and every grade from Kinder-G7 showed up to shop at our market! The students enjoyed seeing our central idea (the exchange of goods and services affects people and the environment) come to life! We sold out of all our products and were very tired after working so hard! Each team made a profit, and the students had the idea to donate our profit from the market (including donations) to a charity. The students will research and select a charity next week.

Mathletics: The company have been in touch, and say they are working on making the app available in Japan. For now, it is available on iPads.

Thank you,
Ms. Stacy.
