Term 3 Week 8

Dear Parents,

English: We read five biographies about children who have volunteered or set up charities. We kept a key question in mind: how do people help each other? We practiced our close reading skills. We answered questions by looking for evidence in the biographies. We practiced writing using evidence to support our answers.

Maths: We reviewed patterns and looked at different number patterns. We learned how to use a function machine, and how to recognise a missing piece of a function machine. This will lead us into understanding equations next week. We also practiced x3 and x4 multiplication. We used our understanding of length and measurement to measure clothes. We also used a map of the Dawn Centre stage to calculate the size of props needed. I love how students are using their maths skills as part of their inquiry-I didn't ask them to. They are just choosing to do it. Amazing!

YEP (UOI): We had a BUSY week preparing and practicing for YEP. We finished most of our props and set design. Now we are working on our acting, and stage positions. We worked on our social skills and also on solving problems. The students have come up with all of the ideas for YEP. They make the decisions all by themselves, and then they work on what they need to do. It is fantastic to see this happen every day. They have come so far this year! The students have a great attitude and are working very hard. They are very excited to share their performance on YEP day!

ASCO: We had our final round of Student Council elections this week. I was impressed that a lot of  the Grade 3 students had the confidence to be risk-takers, and were caring enough to try and improve our school. Students were disappointed not to win, but handled their defeat very well. Those who did win were very gracious in their victory. The final results will be announced in Monday's assembly. Congratulations to the students in our class who were elected!

Reminders:
-We will go to the Dawn Centre on Tuesday for YEP practice. We are scheduled to return at 2:55. If there is bad traffic, we might be a little late for dismissal. I will email you if that happens.
-Our trip to USJ is Friday. Please take time to read the information email from the office and let me know if you have any questions/concerns. Most importantly, we need to be in school earlier than usual on this day.

Enjoy your weekend!
Ms. Stacy.
