Term 1 Week 3

Dear Parents,

Thank you to everyone who could attend Family Picnic! It was a great day and it was fun to spend time with you outside of school!

In Morning Meeting, we focused on the learner profile attribute caring. We brainstormed ideas of what being caring means. We did caring challenges throughout the week. We thought of positive and negative ways to solve problems, and created skits to act out our ideas.

In English class, we continued reading articles to help us find the answer to our key question: what makes someone a good team member? We read a story called "Tag, You're it" and used examples from the story to help answer our key question. We also practiced using the past tense of verbs in our writing. We read "My Brain" to connect to our inquiry and find the answers to some of our questions about the nervous system.

In Maths class, we worked on rounding numbers to the nearest hundred. We used our "rounding roller-coaster" to help us to remember if we should round up or down. We practiced estimating. We had a lot of fun guessing how many jewels are in our class jar. We learned a strategy to help us to estimate easily, by grouping and multiplying.

In Unit of Inquiry, we finished up with the skeletal system by making a bone model of the different layers of bone. We then began inquiring into the nervous system. We thought about how we can do things. We decided that there must be a system involving the brain. We found that it is called the nervous system. We did some research and found out about the different parts of the nervous system. We went to see presentations by Grade 5 who are also inquiring into body systems. We were inspired by their knowledge and art skills!
