Term 1 Week 5

Dear Parents,

In English class, we practiced using nonfiction books to get information. We looked up vocabulary words in dictionaries that are connected to our unit and made a poster to teach our friends about it. We learned about prepositions and practiced recognising them.

In Maths class, we worked on our mental addition skills like finding tens, adding tens and ones, and looking at patterns to help us with quick addition. We worked in groups and alone to improve this skill.

In Unit of Inquiry, we finished inquiring into the circulatory system. We did some science to see how a heart pumps blood, why, and the components of blood. We researched and found out information about the heart, including what it looks like. We sketched the heart and the names of the different parts.

Week 8

Dear Parents, Great news! A new boy, Seitaro, will join our class from next Friday! This week we started our new unit: sharing the planet: our actions affect life on Earth! We tuned into the unit by sharing what we think the central idea means-there were a lot of excellent ideas! We then looked up the meaning of a biome in the dictionary and made a list of biomes. We chose a biome that sounded interesting, and researched living factors, non-living factors, and the location of the biome. In Maths, we distributed our surveys to different grades, collected the data, and represented it in a bar graph. It was fun! In PSPE, we played team building games in the gym!  In English, we focused on finding the main details of a chapter and using evidence to support our reasoning. We began reading The Halloween House.
