Term 1 Week 9

Dear Parents,

Thank you very much to those who could come to Parents' Morning! We were all very excited to have you join our class!

After tuning in what our unit means and what we already know, we had a challenge to turn a solid into liquid-who can melt the ice the fastest. Students planned and carried out their challenge, and many groups reflected on their method and decided to change it. We showed how our understanding of matter can help us!

After Parents' Morning, we discussed how heat energy changed the ice to water. We brainstormed to see what other types of energy we know about. It seems like we know a lot about energy, but maybe we need to research a little more to clear up any confusion.

We used library books and the internet to find more information about different types of energy. Each group chose a type of energy to learn more about.

We practiced chance investigations, and recording and reading data. We reviewed how to draw a neat and accurate graph, and how to read information from it. We had fun rolling dice and spinning spinners to make our investigations more interesting.

We brainstormed ideas about what makes a mystery. We have been working on creative writing, and how to improve on our writing to make it more interesting. We worked on creating characters, using our senses to allow the reader to imagine our story, using tense/suspenseful vocabulary, and editing our draft to improve our writing.

In music, during the first unit of inquiry, students inquired the better way to produce the beautiful sound for singing and playing the recorder. Students learned to use their whole body parts and systems effectively for the best musical performance.♪♪
