Week 10 and 11

Dear Parents,

We've had an extremely busy week and a half! With all of the fun activities of Numeracy Week last week (check out my other blog), it's crazy to think that we had time to do a lot of learning in other subjects too!

We finished our research that we had been working on. The students practiced their presenting skills. We also began giving each other feedback about our presenting styles-I was impressed that the students gave constructive and positive advice to each other!

Solar Power

Sound Energy

Electrical Energy

Hydro Power

Wind Power

To dig deeper into our central idea, we had to understand more what energy transfer means. We explored with different science experiments in the classroom. After a lot of time thinking, talking, and sharing ideas, we finally understood that energy changes from one form to another! We used our art skills to draw and describe some energy changes that we could think of.

We reviewed what we already know about telling the time, and practiced telling the time in both analog and digital formats. It was tricky to remember the analog version, for example: 2:40 is twenty to three.

We worked on improving our sentence structure and grammar. We practiced adding full stops and capital letters, compared the present and past tense of verbs, and using the correct pronouns in a sentence. We also learned about similes, and had fun recognising and writing them by "like" or "as". We even watched a video which showed us many examples of similes in pop culture-we were very surprised that there are a lot of similes in movies and songs that we know! Let's see if we can remember to include a simile in our mystery story that we are working on.

Some students chose to take part in a lunch-time soccer tournament. The final was held last week, and the students had a lot of fun taking part and also cheering on their friends!

In morning meeting, we worked on our "principled activities" for our understanding of the learner profile attributes. Grade 3 students chose different tasks to show their understanding of what it means to be a principled person. It was cool that they chose a lot of different activities to work on and present to the class. We had posters, a play, stories, and comic books!

Reminders:
-Please talk with your child about train safety.
-There is no school Thursday and Friday due to G20.

Have a great long weekend!
Ms. Stacy.
