Term 2 Week 11

Dear Parents,

Thank you again to those of you who could attend Parents' Morning. It was great to have you in the classroom! The students really enjoyed researching their different environmental problems and presenting for you.

This week we also worked on reading maps, using keys, and following directions in Maths class. We practiced understanding and using suffixes in English class, and subject-verb agreement. We worked on our action plans for our unit. The students came up with really great ideas for how to help the Earth.

-We have our field trip on Thursday.

Central Idea:  Understanding the way matter behaves can help us to use it for our benefit.  Lines of Inquiry: Function:  Transformation of matter from one state to another Change:  How energy is transferred through matter Responsibility:  How we use our knowledge of energy and matter. Key concepts:  function, change, responsibility Related concepts:  matter, transformation, energy, development Learner profile:  knowledgeable, inquirers, thinkers We began the unit by looking at the different states of matter, making a poster to categorise objects into: solid, liquid or gas. Students then researched and worked on experiments to show transformation of matter. The experiments helped them to further their understanding of states of matter, and the conditions necessary to cause changes to these states. Dear Parents, Welcome to Grade 3! I hope the students are well rested and ready for another busy year! My name is Stacy O'Sullivan. I am from Ireland. I have been teaching for 8 years (2 1/2 years at AIS). My hobbies include playing futsal, photography, superhero movies, watching rugby, and playing ukulele. Before moving to Osaka 2 1/2 years ago, I was teaching in Thailand for 3 years. I have also lived in Australia and England. I really love travelling and have been to many countries. I am very passionate about IB. It has been wonderful to see from the beginning how IB has been implemented in our school, and how we go from strength to strength each year.
