Term 3 Week 3

Dear Parents,

In English, we practiced note-taking, worked on recognising and  fixing incorrect sentences, identified the main events in a story, and used these to help us sequence events, and summarise a story. We looked at and gathered information from charts, and created our own charts to clearly display information. We also took a Raz Kids reading assessment, to make sure that we are reading at the correct level. This prompted some discussion on the importance of reading every day to help improve our reading skills and English fluency.

In Maths, we looked at some 3D shapes and realised the importance of the depth or height of a shape. We discovered that the volume of a shape is how much space it takes up, measured in cubic centimeters (cm³ ). We made shapes using blocks and counted how many blocks there were. It was particularly difficult to figure this out when there were hidden blocks, but we practiced it a lot and by the end of the week we were much better at visualising the entire shape!

In UOI, we focused on our third line of inquiry, sharing personal experiences. We thought about what real event in our lives we would like to share, and then created an art piece to show this experience.

After sharing our inspiration on Seesaw, we practiced giving feedback to each other. The students enjoyed receiving feedback from their classmates!

We continued to work on our plans for YEP. This involves a lot of group work. I am happy to see that the students are doing well to listen to other ideas and compromise!

We had a picnic at the "big park" as a special reward for working on our social skills. We really enjoyed it! As one student was too sick to join us, we decided that we will be caring, and go again in a few weeks when everyone can join.

For the Grade 6 PYPx (Primary Years Programme Exhibition), one student invited a guest speaker to give a talk on bullying. We learned a lot and will continue to share our understanding of this next week.

Have a great weekend!
Ms. Stacy.
