Term 3 Week 1
Dear Parents,
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a good break!
This week in Grade 3, we got used to our school routines again. We especially had to work on speaking English, our common language to include everyone, as we got out of the habit over the vacation. We also had a bit of an easier week, as we didn't have any spellings or kanji to learn. These will start from next week.
In English class, we compared and contrasted how we celebrated New Year's Eve with another culture. We used our shared reading book "Happy New Year Around the World" to help us with that. We drew a Venn Diagram to show display our data. We also practiced editing our work. We used our writing of our Winter Vacation to help us. We worked on spotting our grammatical errors, spellings mistakes, missing words, and punctuation in our sentences.
In Maths class, we measured time. We started by converting between units of time (seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks). We also learned about the 24 hour clock, and how to convert between that and am/pm. We then practiced figuring out how much time passed between two known times. Finally, we read calendars and schedules, and worked out how to find information and follow instructions.
In UOI, we looked at different art forms. We chose to research one type. The different groups researched: drawing, sculpture, craft-making, puzzle-making, and comics. We designed posters to share our knowledge. We looked at different ways of presenting and found that we should work on: projecting our voices, body language, and eye contact. We tried out our new skills-there was a huge improvement by everyone! We also tried giving each other feedback on our presentations. I was very impressed by the positive attitude of all students for this activity. We made some plans for YEP, and will continue that next week.
Important:
-Club information will be sent tonight.
-Monday, January 13th is a National Holiday.
-Thursday, January 16th is Picture Day.
Have a great weekend!
Ms. Stacy.
