Term 1 Week 9

Dear Parents,

This week we welcomed Rio to our class! We are very excited to have a new friend!

We have been having some problems with remembering to do all of our homework. When you sign the homework notebook everyday, please help your child by checking that they actually done the homework.

Maths:
We worked on some more mental addition strategies like bridge to ten and jump. We also practiced reading word problems and trying to figure out if we need to add, subtract, multiply or divide the numbers. We learned that there are different types of angles, and focused on obtuse, right, and acute angles.

English:
We used our shared reading books to make text-to-self connections. We found that there are many similarities between books and our own lives! We also analysed the characters by writing descriptive words about them, and explaining why we chose our favourite characters. We learned how to spell words ending in "tion".

UOI:
Following a question about how water changes, we researched The Water Cycle. We set up an experiment to see how water can change into different states of matter. We took part in a challenge to see who could melt an ice cube the fastest. We made our predictions, and then had a lot of fun melting the ice! We reflected on why some experiments were more successful than others, and made a poster to show our understanding.

Art:
As we were learning about angles and lines in maths class, we made geometric art by drawing lines.

Have a great weekend!
Ms. Stacy.
