Term 2 Week 1

Dear Parents,

We were very excited to be back to school this week!

English:

We practiced writing grammatically correct sentences by focusing on present tense verbs and subject pronouns. We noticed that we improved after some practice! We worked on reading comprehension, and also focused on reading at our own level to improve. I strongly encourage all students to read the "level up" books on Raz Kids every day, and answering the quiz questions carefully. By focusing on reading at their own level, students can improve their reading skills.

Maths:

We reviewed a mixture of different questions, and practiced reading the questions carefully. We reviewed some addition strategies, and worked on the split addition strategy and written addition. We also practiced challenging word problems, and played some fun Maths games.

Unit of Inquiry:

We were very excited to begin our new unit, where we are in place and time! Our new central idea is Ancient civilisations impact our lives. We began by brainstorming what we already knew about ancient civilisations. We then watched a video to find out exactly a civilisation is, and decided that it meant a city from a very long time ago. We then began inquiring into Ancient Greece. We researched interesting facts in books and online, and then organised the information that we found.

Have a great weekend!

Ms. Stacy.
