Term 2 Weeks 4-7

Dear Parents,


    We finished up our third unit of inquiry! We continued to explore Ancient Civilisations.

    The students made huge posters about different Ancient Greek gods. They really enjoyed researching their chosen god, making their posters, and presenting. 

    The students split into teams to teach their classmates about some aspect of Ancient Egypt. They decided what they wanted to research, prepared the materials, and taught the lessons. It was really fun to see them acting like teachers! 

    For their summative assessments, the students chose an Ancient Civilisation and made a brochure to show their knowledge of the civilisation, and how it impacts our lives today.

    In English, Grade 3 have been working on writing Personal Narratives. They have been learning and practicing the different stages of writing. They also worked on identifying the Author's Purpose in writing a text, as well as working on their grammar.

    In Maths class, the students learned how to recognise the different transformations that 2D shapes undergo, idenfitying equivalent fractions, and using timelines.

Week 8

Dear Parents, Great news! A new boy, Seitaro, will join our class from next Friday! This week we started our new unit: sharing the planet: our actions affect life on Earth! We tuned into the unit by sharing what we think the central idea means-there were a lot of excellent ideas! We then looked up the meaning of a biome in the dictionary and made a list of biomes. We chose a biome that sounded interesting, and researched living factors, non-living factors, and the location of the biome. In Maths, we distributed our surveys to different grades, collected the data, and represented it in a bar graph. It was fun! In PSPE, we played team building games in the gym!  In English, we focused on finding the main details of a chapter and using evidence to support our reasoning. We began reading The Halloween House.
