Term 2 Weeks 10-12

Dear Parents,

Here is some of what we did during these weeks.

English: We learned how to peer grade and give feedback, edit, and publish our personal narratives. We practiced identifying the main details in a text. We began to learn how to write an opinion piece. We saw how we should use OREO to help us (state your opinion, give reasons, give examples to support the reasons, restate your opinion).

Maths: We really enjoyed investigating 3D shapes. We built models using clay and toothpicks, magnets, and also paper. This helped us to visualise each shape. We could easily count the number of corners, faces, and edges, as well as observe which type of 2D shape it is similar to. We built 3D shapes out of clay and cut them to see the cross-section of each each shape. We also looked at images from different viewpoints, and learned to identify the different sides of a cube when looking at the net.

UOI: We researched different biomes and made posters. We remembered to include food chains, biotic factors (living), and abiotic factors  (nonliving) for each biome. We read a story called The Messy Magpie and discussed human impact on biomes. We read about deforestation and realised the  importance of thinking about the Earth as well as ourselves. We worked on our research skills and researched about polar bears, and researched the human impact on oceans.

Thank you,

Ms. Stacy.
