Term 2 Weeks 15-16

Dear Parents,

We finished Term 2! It is usually a very long and busy term, but this year it was even busier with so many events that had been postponed from Term 1. Somehow we got through it! After going online for just two days, we were lucky that we were able to finish the year in school. We practiced for the ISA tests. It was the students' first time to stay sitting for a long time doing a test. They did very well. We finished the term by enjoying a fun Talent Show in the class and also watching the movie Ice Age.

English: While we worked on reading and spellings, our main focus was finishing our opinion piece writing. We looked at examples of how to write a strong conclusion, tying in the reasons outlined in the essay. We practiced peer editing. We learned how to give feedback that is helpful and constructive. We also tried to be open to feedback, and to edit our work. Finally, we published our opinion pieces.

Maths: We reviewed how to to tell the time. We learned how to read schedules and how to measure time. This can be tricky to understand. We looked at many different examples and practiced applying the skill to the examples.

UOI: We started our new unit, how we organise ourselves. We tried to make sense of our central idea: the exchange of goods and services affect people and the environment. We researched the difference between goods and services, and brainstormed ideas for what the unit will be about. We went on a neighbourhood walk and found that there are many examples of goods and services all around us. We identified our needs and wants and decided that people should save their money for what they need. We made a book to tell our own stories of needs and wants.

Thank you,

Ms. Stacy.
