Term 3 Week 5

Dear Parents,

We enjoyed some fun activities organised by Grade 6 students as part of their PYP Exhibition! Please remember that we have important events coming up next week and read the related emails:

-ISAs: Please make sure your child is well rested, has a good breakfast, and is on time for school.

-PYPX (Exhibition): Please fill in the form if you will join to show support for our sixth graders.

English: We practiced writing personal narratives. We also looked at some poems and identified examples of figurative language: similes, metaphors, personification, and idioms.

Maths: We worked on our problem solving skills. We looked at different types of questions and worked in teams to solve them. We also practiced checking our answer after we write to see if it makes sense.

UOI: We researched the elements of art and made posters to show our understanding. We presented what we learned to the rest of the class. We also brainstormed ideas for YEP. We practiced describing and analysing art by looking at "Starry Night" and answering questions to share our thoughts and feelings.

Key concepts:  function, change, responsibility Related concepts:  matter, transformation, energy, development Learner profile:  knowledgeable, inquirers, thinkers We began the unit by looking at the different states of matter, making a poster to categorise objects into: solid, liquid or gas. Students then researched and worked on experiments to show transformation of matter. Dear Parents, Welcome to Grade 3! I hope the students are well rested and ready for another busy year! My name is Stacy O'Sullivan. I am from Ireland. I have been teaching for 8 years (2 1/2 years at AIS). My hobbies include playing futsal, photography, superhero movies, watching rugby, and playing ukulele. Before moving to Osaka 2 1/2 years ago, I was teaching in Thailand for 3 years. I have also lived in Australia and England. I really love travelling and have been to many countries. I am very passionate about IB. It has been wonderful to see from the beginning how IB has been implemented in our school, and how we go from strength to strength each year.
